Post-Circumcision Care

Following a circumcision, the area should be kept clean and dry and changed frequently for up
to three days. After day 2, you can safely bathe, but make sure the water temperature is below
40 degrees Celsius. It is best to avoid putting the newborn in a tub until the umbilical cord is
completely removed. There are some common complications and risks associated with
circumcision healing. Below are the most prevalent. Infection: After the circumcision, you should
keep your newborn out of the tub for at least one day.
Scarring: Scarring after circumcision is normal. Although it does not affect a personâ€TMs quality
of living, it can lead to insecurity. If a circumcision is not done correctly, severe scarring can
occur. Most scars will heal without too much concern, and you can purchase over-the-counter
creams to help minimize their appearance. When in doubt, talk to a doctor. A doctor may
recommend other treatments for scars from circumcision.
Recovery after circumcision: It depends on the type and duration of the anesthesia used. Some
men will not need to be absent from work for a while. Some men may need to take a break for a
week or so. Avoid heavy lifting or sitting for prolonged periods of time. The wound may be
swollen temporarily during the healing process. Afterward, you can resume light exercise and
moderate walking. Avoid heavy lifting for at most one week.
The wound may become tender and infected following the procedure. However, with proper
postsurgical care, infection is usually minimal. The procedure is also relatively simple and will
not require an overnight stay in the hospital. The doctor will ask for you to stop eating at the least
six hours before your surgery. You will also be examined by a medical team to answer any
questions. To prevent complications and speed up the healing process, it is important that you
follow all post-surgical instructions.
Before the procedure, discuss with your healthcare provider how you will control pain. You may
use acetaminophen, swaddling, and oral sugar solutions. If you are at high risk, your doctor will
discuss the benefits and risks of circumcision with you. Before the procedure, you should
understand the risks and benefits of the procedure so that you can prepare accordingly. If you
are not satisfied with the results of circumcision, your surgeon will inform you and offer an
alternative.
During healing, there may be excessive bleeding around the incision area. This is known as
phimosis. This happens when the foreskin is too tight, or is stuck behind a penis tip. It can be
extremely painful and may need further medical intervention. A doctor may recommend a
circumcision in extreme cases. If other treatments have failed, a doctor may recommend a
circumcision. A local anaesthetic cream can be used by a healthcare professional to soften your
foreskin and make it more easy to retract.
Although circumcision cannot be performed under general anesthesia it is important that you
follow the guidelines for post-surgery. Your healthcare provider will put your newborn in a
restraining harness to stop any movement during the procedure. Your healthcare provider will
administer one or both types of anesthetics to the penis. Topical anesthetic numbs the penis,
while an injection will work faster. If necessary, the healthcare provider will prepare the area with
an antibiotic.

A circumcision procedure is unlikely to result in HIV infection in a child. But, circumcision has its
risks. Doctors may not perform circumcision if the baby is born prematurely. The delay can
cause a newborn to grow faster. In rare cases, a baby could develop physical problems which
require a reconstructive procedure. Doctors may use the foreskin of a baby who has had a
surgery in the past month to reconstruct the baby’s body.
The increased risk of infection is another potential problem for uncircumcised males.
Uncircumcised people are more susceptible to infections such as chancroid, trichomonas, and
others. However, circumcision does not protect against chlamydia or gonorrho. However, it does
not eliminate the risk for syphilis. There are some benefits to circumcision. Discuss your options
with your doctor if you are considering circumcision.
After a baby has been circumcised, their doctor will remove the foreskin encasing the penis.
Generally, this surgery is done within two to three days of birth, but some babies need to wait for
longer if they are premature, have a penis problem, or are bleeding during the process. The
doctor will discuss the benefits and risks with you, and explain any possible complications.
Parents may have questions about circumcision. This is fine.
